Nick Ing

Strategic Coach

Born and raised in Chicago, blocks from Wrigley Field, I used to cut class in middle school and sit behind home plate for Cubs opening day (don’t tell my mom). The violin was put in my hands at age three and I played classical music until I went to Northeastern University in Boston, MA for both undergrad and grad school. Simultaneously, I produced and sold hip hop and RnB beats, but retired the kick and snares trying to learn the complexities of gross anatomy. Following graduation, I moved to Portland, OR to explore the great outdoors of the pacific northwest and where I spent the bulk of my career treating patients. Alas, the Midwest called and brought me back to sweet home, Chicago.

As a Physical Therapist, I’ve worked in a variety of settings. Prior to RehabCEOs, I was Director of Clinical Strategy for a revenue cycle management company that serviced PT businesses. My covid project was to design and publish a phone app to help PT students pass their boards. As a PT, the majority of my patient care was spent in outpatient with my bread and butter as a manual therapist dabbling in craniosacral and myofascial release. I really enjoyed teaching clinical students and also tutored to help them pass their exams. The most impactful work setting was working on the TBI unit in acute rehab.

My Core Values:

Evolution. While discomfort can be unpleasant, it also is a catalyst for growth.

“Victory belongs to the most tenacious” – Napoleon Bonaparte

At RehabCEOs, I am a coaching consultant for physical therapy businesses, which includes strategizing with the owner the best solutions for problems regarding operations, growth, finances, staffing, billing, and quality. Due to years as a therapist as well as a revenue cycle management background, my previous experiences allow me to be empathic and see alternative approaches.

Our industry is highly acute to the limited business education when receiving a physical therapy degree. My job is to close that gap for physical therapists who own their own business and make sure that every single owner is successful so they can extend their services, and provide quality care to as many patients as possible.

Just like any therapist, problem solving fills my cup and is the type of mental stimulus I enjoy. It’s a common joke that many therapists are married to either other therapists or engineers. Similar working minds. Clarity and direction is the best thing you can offer a situation or an owner that is overwhelmed, often best received from an objective perspective. I don’t pretend to know every answer, but analytical rigor, specifically when aligning around a shared vision is where I thrive.

A barrier to many therapists moving from patient care to another career path is loss of identity. I’ve found the opposite. Working with RehabCEOs has enhanced and built upon skills most therapists learn early and are inherently strong at. Critically thinking and developing creative solutions parallels extremely well. RehabCEOs allows a vehicle with the added benefit of still being industry specific.
